Villa or Hotel?

Added: Jun 04, 2013

We had been coming to Florida as tourists for well over a decade before we finally decided to make the move permanent, so we have a pretty good appreciation of what levels of service and accommodation to expect.

Like many, we started off by using the hotels that were part of tour operator package deals mostly on International Drive and these were mostly fine. We then started to treat ourselves by staying on-site at Disney and this was such a marked improvement in the standard of service and lodging.

However, it wasn’t until we rented our first villa that we kicked ourselves for wasting all that time and money on hotels. “Why didn’t we do this from the start?” – hindsight is a wonderful thing isn’t it? So what was so different, so much better? It was entirely our space to do what we liked, when we liked without having to worry about anyone else.

Having your own space, your own pool, being able to get up in the night and raid the fridge, relax on the pool deck or sleep in of a morning undisturbed (if you don’t have kids!) and enjoy all the comforts of home in comfortable surroundings makes a huge difference!

If you haven’t tried it yet, we strongly recommend you do – once you have stayed in a villa you will never go back. We recently went to try the new Disney Art of Animation resort hotel for a night as a treat for our kids and the place looks sensational. BUT its noisy and you cannot relax properly, well not anything like you do when you stay at a villa. They really can be a home from home!
